Description: The feature is a point shapefile that has three subtypes to classify data; cleanout, flushing structure, inline cleanout and lamphole. A cleanout is a capped end of a sewer line that is used to clear obstructions in the sewer line. An inline cleanout has a removable basket to filter sewage that collects large objects that could be circulating through. A lamphole is a reticulation sewer end of line access point to allow limited access to facilitate inspection or clearing of obstructions.

Description: The feature uses points to represent data and has nine subtypes; discharge structure, junction chamber, lift station, pump station, diversion chamber, diversion point, production well, treatment plant and storage basin. A discharge structure is a building that consists of concrete box culvert that discharges sewage into a body of water or an interior drainage system. A junction chamber is a section in a sewer system where the flow from one or more sewers joins or converges into the main sewer. A lift station is designed to move wastewater from lower to higher elevation, particularly where the elevation of the source is not sufficient for gravity flow, and all mechanical components are held underground. A pump station is used to move wastewater to higher elevations in order to allow transport by gravity flow and all mechanical components are held above ground. A diversion chamber is a chamber designed to direct a stream into a channel or channels. A diversion point is a specifically named place where water is removed from a body of water by canal, pipe, or other conduit. A production well is a development well used for production of water for injection purposes. A treatment plant is where the process of removing contaminants from wastewater and sewage is performed. A storage basin is an area to store wastewater in a man-made or earthen reservoir.

Description: The feature is a point shapefile that has three subtypes to classify data; duplex, simplex and progressive cavity. Simplex is a single piston reciprocating device that displaces fluids on both stroke cycles. In other words, the cylinder is filled with fluid above and below the piston, and pumps on both the up and down stroke. Simplex pumps may be powered by electric, gasoline, or diesel motors or by compressed air. Duplexconsists of two pumps that alternate the pumping process, thereby allowing it to be more efficient than a single version. This pump has a higher flow rate due to its not having a dead spot in the pump stroke. A progressive cavity is a type of positive displacement pump that transfers fluid by means of the progress, through the pump, of a sequence of small, fixed shape, discrete cavities, as its rotor is turned.

Description: The feature is a point shapefile that has six subtypes to classify data; air release, combination, flushing connection, terminal flushing, simple check and vacuum release. An air release is used for odor control, with the added benefit of preventing corrosion in the manhole or vault from di-hydrogen sulfate gas. A combination is two or more subtypes that are conjoined. The most common combination is a combination flushing and air/vacuum release valve manhole. A flushing connection is in the connection between the remote seal flange and the piping flange in which the flushing ring is used to clean and drain the remote seals when it is required. Terminal flushing are mechanisms that are installed in manholes, primarily at the upstream terminal ends of sewage main to facilitate the periodic flushing of the downstream mains. A simple check is a clapper which hangs from a hinge, the clapper shaft or pin, which is mounted to the underside of the bonnet, inside the valve body is designed to allow fluid to flow one way in a pipeline and inhibits backflow within the line. A vacuum release uses differential pressure between atmospheric pressure and the partial vacuum pressure maintained in the piping network and vacuum station collection vessel.

Description: The feature uses points to represent data and has five subtypes; flume, magnetic, sonic, venture, and weir. A flume is a fixed hydraulic structure that under free-flow conditions force flow to accelerate in such a way that the flow may be characterized by a known relationship between the sewage level at a single specified location and flow rate. A magnetic meter has a field that is applied to the metering tube, which results in a potential difference proportional to the flow velocity perpendicular to the flux lines. A sonic meter is a volumetric flow meter which requires particulates or bubbles in the flow. A venture is a hot and cold water meter capable of passing some small particulate matter. A weir is a structure consisting of an obstruction such as a dam or bulkhead placed across the open channel with a specially shaped opening or notch. The weir results an increase in the water level, or head, which is measured upstream of the structure.

Description: The feature is a point shapefile that has eleven subtypes to classify data; bend, cap, coupling, cross, fitting, reducer, sleeve, saddle, tee and wye. A bend is a single pipe joint that can be up to 90 degree angle. A cap is a sealed entrance point to get into the sewer line. A coupling is a flexible connector that has two metal fittings that grasps the pipe with the joint that can be tightened to specification. A cross is a joint with two entrances into the pipe on both sides. A fitting is a standard joint that is straight with no bends. A reducer is a converter that connects a larger pipe size to a smaller pipe size. A sleeve is a protective ring used to keep a pipe hole open and creating a cover barrier between a pipe and its surroundings. A saddle is used for lateral connections, eliminating the need for a T-fitting. A Tee is a perpendicular connection, most widely used in this dataset. A wye connects on a 45 degree angle.

Description: The feature is a line shapefile that has five subtypes to classify data; collector, inline storage, inverted siphon, overflow and tunnel. A collector is a conventional gravity sewer that is designed to the slope and size of the pipe adequate to maintain flow towards the discharge point without surcharging manholes or pressurizing the pipe. An inline storage refers to a number of practices designed to use the storage within the pipe system to detain flows by reducing peak flows. An Inverted Siphon allows sewage to pass under obstructions such as rivers. Unlike the main sewer pipe, the siphon pipes flow under pressure and must have flow velocities greater than 3 ft/s (0.9 m/s) to keep material suspended and several siphons having smaller diameters than the main sewer may be required. Overflows are extra pipeline that allows relief when there are more sewage than the pipe can handle in normal conditions. A tunnel is an underground passageway that has a pipeline within it.

Description: The feature is a line shapefile that has three subtypes to classify data; force, low-pressure, and vacuum. Force mains are pipelines that convey wastewater under pressure from the discharge side of a pump or pneumatic ejector to a discharge point. Pumps or compressors located in a lift station provide the energy for wastewater conveyance in force mains. A low pressure main uses a small pump stations to move wastewater through the transmission system. A vacuum evacuates air from a closed volume and develops a pressure differential between the volume and the surrounding atmosphere.
